2023 Updates

One of our favorite family activities is camping. So far in 2023 we have camped at Cummins Ferry RV Park, which is southwest of Lexington on the Kentucky River. It ended up being unseasonably cool, but we went kayaking along the river and enjoyed that activity for 3-4 hours. Ben and I tried to take the dogs on a walk around the trails near the campground, but the grass was too tall and Dewey (Mr. Velcro) had dozens of stickies in his hair, so we turned around and had less than half a mile in that excursion. We hope to return to Cummins Ferry someday when it's warmer so we can kayak for longer and enjoy the river float. The boys also went fishing but they didn't have the proper equipment or luck.

Two weeks later we went camping with the Hutchinsons at the Jellystone Campground near Lake Monroe. Jellystone isn't my favorite campsite, but the water features in the pool are a fav for the kids. The campground doesn't have shade and it was HOT. We spent our entire Saturday sitting by the pool with our feet in the water, drinking homemade margaritas. Dolly and Dewey were sitting in the camper with Owen, taking a break from the heat, when we spotted this creeper:

The boys are great. Owen and Conner will enter grades 6 and 8 at the end of the summer season. It's really going quickly. They both love basketball and football. Everyone is staying busy this summer with summer basketball and football/weightlifting camp. Both boys are going to Camp Lakeview and Hanover basketball camp. Owen just returned from Camp Lakeview just this past Friday. His group of boys stayed in the Weas cabin and they won the mudpit tug-of-war competition. Owen had told me they placed second last year and they had a strategy to win: They were going to do a bunch of push-ups right before the competition. lol! Well, it worked!
